A true story that could happen to any of us.
With a fine script, accomplished direction and striking use of music this is one of the most compelling Polish films of recent years.
Bartek with his wife Beata and children move in to his mother’s small flat temporarily while their new flat is being built. But their dream of a better life crumbles when he becomes the victim of an elaborate scam. Forced to stay, and increasingly dependent on Beata, family conflicts soon surface as Bartek takes his humiliation at being unable to provide for his family out on his wife.
Firmly rooted in the everyday, this is an excellent example of the kind of socially engaged, ethically complex film that gives a good sense of life in contemporary Poland.
Winner of 4 Polish Film Awards 2007, including Best Film and Best Actress.
