PL Science: From Gene to Genius

This Saturday is for children!!!

Creative workshop for children aged 8-12. At this event children will meet the Polish scientists from Genetic Institute from Newcastle University, discover some genetic characteristics in themselves, and experiment with their five senses. They will see that our senses can play many tricks! At the end, read a story about a strange genius… Sounds interesting?

On coming Saturday 10th May we will be holding a very special event, polish book fair. Do not worry if you do not speak Polish. We have prepared a choice of over 70 polish books in English for you. So come along, we are all age friendly. We have books for children and for adults, books on history, travel, fiction and non-fiction, novels and poetry.

Our special guest will be James Hopkin, a writer and journalist, an expert on Poland and Polish books. He will be reading fragments of polish literature and talking about his life in Poland.

And we have even more attractions :) a quiz of knowledge about Poland, folders on Polish cities and regions, tour around the historic building of the Lit and Phil, polish cakes and polish music.

And all of it on Saturday 10th may at the Lit and Phil.

Polish 4 English starts today!

An ideal opportunity for anyone planning a trip to Poland!
Learn how to have a simple conversation in Polish. Introduce yourself, order food and drink and make the most of this beautiful country. Get yourself down to The Globe and speak Polish! Don’t forget it’s free of charge!
There is no need to sign up for the workshops. Anyone is welcome to participate in the activities. The aim of The Polish 4 English course is to teach so called “Survival Polish”. This will provide the key communication skills necessary when holidaying in Poland. The workshops will outline phrases, expressions and guidance towards:

1. The Polish alphabet, its pronunciation and introduction techniques (7th May).
2. Ordering food and drinks in a restaurant and outlining the common names of dishes/food etc. (14th May).
3. Giving and receiving directions, travel arrangements (21st May).

Throughout the sessions organisers from the ?Made in Poland? festival will provide free snacks.
